SMS Functionality

I am very happy with most features available with SIM, however the amount of time we have spent trying to get SMS alerts working is becoming a problem.

Possibly a HP representative could answer this " In future upgrades of SIM will there be the addition of SMS functionality ?

I mean there is almost every other option and having to create a custom script seems like a whole lot of trouble for what I assume most support guys would prefer ie SMS features.

Thanks

PS Any update on the date for SIM bug fixes ?

Re: SMS Functionality

Everytime we have looked at it, there hasn't been a common method to dial in to the service provider and transmit the data. Also, more and more we have ssen modem lines being completely eliminated from data centers and offices for security reasons. That's not to say that you don't have a need, as I'm sure many others do. With third-party applications available that we can call through an application launch to the preferred method most customers have told us about, an email gateway, there are too many other features that are on customer wish lists to be prioritizing this one higher.

I'm sure this will invite a lot of traffic, but this forum already is responsible for a number of product changes you'll be seeing in the future, but let's hear from everyone.

Please (calmly) share the reasons why calling an application through launch or an email gateway is not an acceptable method for you.

Re: SMS Functionality

A 3rd party app is just one additional piece we would have to add and config. Not impossible, just inconvenient.

As for email gateway, that works for most of our systems except for unreachable events on the mail gateways themselves.

Re: SMS Functionality

Support for the UCP protocol would be helpfull as most European telecom providers support this. the TAP protocol that SIM uses is not supported anymore in the Netherlands.

Whereabouts are you Leon? If you are in Europe, you may find some of the responses I posted in the thread started by So Def useful. If you are in the Netherlands - bad luck! (no support for TAP). What exactly is the problem?

Re: SMS Functionality

I have found something that might help,

Sending a SMTP e-mail message to a SMS Service provide that will then notify a group on SMS.

Not perfect in any way, but better than nothing.
