SSH needed in SIM4.2?

We are using SIM 4.1 in what is almost a pure-Windows environment.

Thus far we have not found any functionality which required SSH, so we have not taken the time to configure/deploy it to our managed servers (hundreds).

I understand SIM 4.2 will have some new features, including OS patching (we own HP Radia Patch Manager).

Will any of these new features require SSH? We would like to know now so that in maintenance we have scheduled for the next few weeks we can add SSH to the list if need be.

Thanks!

Re: SSH needed in SIM4.2?

Kevin,
Since no one has answered I'll take a guess.
I would say the same reasons to use SSH will be there in 4.2.

On the HPSIM Server itself SSH is needed to run Custom Commands.
If you need to run any kind of command on a remote server then SSH will be required.

Like you I understand there are some additional features around Patch Management. I'm keenly waiting to see exactly what. If it used the same mechanism to deploy a patch as for the HP Drivers etc. then no SSH would be required.
I'm pretty much in the same situation, apart from the HPSIM Server I have not implemented SSH.

Re: SSH needed in SIM4.2?

For what it's worth:

So far, I'm 50% all custom commands and the other half normal PSP push. SSH is a god-send (after I fought to get it working right). What you can accomplish though custom commands is a time save and life savor. batch files, copying certs, ACL files etc...
