Stop multiple trap messages

I configured SIM to send message for a specific hardware status. I want it to send message for each "unique" trap, I am overwhelmed with the same message being sent over and over again. How do I stop the same message from being sent 100s of time?

What's the message? Maybe you need to fix the problem that is generating the Trap. HPSIM is just the reporting tool.

We can't fix the problem now, this is an email flood problem. Same message is being repeated 200 times.

Bobo:

There have been sporadic reports of this in 4.2. If you're using 4.2 we need to get this to customer services so it can be duplicated.

I already called, I did everything they asked me to do. CS said it will be a fee- based support. This doesn't sound real to me. This is the main problem that is preventing us from using SIM 4.2 now. The funny thing is that this problem is supposed to be fixed in 4.2.

I believe I have a similar issue. I setup my Agents to send traps to the SIM server, but I ONLY what Unique events. I am not using paging or e-mail alerts, but we have over 900 HP systems and it becomes hard to monitor events when you receive 500 events a day. What I would like to see, is if I receive a duplicate/same trap to 'erase' the old trap (older in date/time) and keep the new trap.

Is this the same issue and should I also contact HP support?

We still continue to receive old messages. I had upgraded to 4.2 as suggested to resolve the problem. I continued to have the problem after the upgrade. I then started with a completely fresh install of SIM 4.2 and a new SQL database. I still continue to receive old messages. Today it was triggered by the Discovery service.

I called in and opened a case. The suggestion was to try the SNMP timeout value and the retry value, but no luck.

I spoke with support and they suggested I try turning off Automatic Discovery, which was what seemed to trigger the resend. They also suggested deleting and recreating Event Handlers as opposed to modifying them. Since we reinstalled everything we have only had one major alarm prompted by a storage device event.

I'm wondering if the other individuals having this problem are only receiving repeat messages from storage events and if they are being triggered from Automatic Discovery?
