Storage Requirements

Does anyone have an idea of how large the databases will grow? Say you're building a system to monitor 150 Proliant servers, how much storage would you suggest be allocated for the database?

Re: Storage Requirements

There is no practical limit.

It should start may less than a 100 MB, and then continuously grow as new events are added to the database.

With old cases I have observed, trap storms had caused literally millions of events to be logged in one day, causing the database to grow by leaps and bounds. In the end, the server started suffering not by the lack of disk space, but by the amount of memory and processor utilitization that hp Systems Insight Manager, SQL, and Java combined would consume.

This is an extreme situation, of course. In the regular course of business, event database growth can be checked by deleting events automatically that may be considered irrelevant after af certain age.
