System Management Homepage - Cannot Connect

I have a problem connecting to the SMHP \\server:2381\
IE gives the cannot find message. However, the problem is not consistent, a reboot may resolve the issue for a while and then the problem re-occurs. Is there a service that may be failing here?

Re: System Management Homepage - Cannot Connect

Hi, on checking the HP System Management Homepage service I find that it is running. A stop/start allowed connection again one time only. Subsequent connections show the basic Home page with no agents etc in the lefthand pane.

Re: System Management Homepage - Cannot Connect

Did you installed PSP(proliant support pack) properly on the server?
If yes what is ur server type and PSP version?

Re: System Management Homepage - Cannot Connect

I have Proliant ML350-G3, running Windows Server 2003 as a DC. The latest PSP recently updated to 8.00 as the reference pack, SMHP is version 2.1.11.197. I have noticed that stop/start SMHP service appears to resolve the issue as all the agents re-appear. A logoff/logon produces an empty SMHP container again necessitating a restart of the service. I have forced a re-install of SMHP but will probably need to do a reboot to ensure all is OK even though the install returned code 1. I will not be able to do that until later today. All other items installed from PSP are showing green.

Re: System Management Homepage - Cannot Connect

This seems to be an issue with PSP 8.0.
Myself and another were having the same issue with the SMH after installing PSP 8.0.

Luckily I had only applied PSP 8.0 on 3 servers and all 3 servers were exhibiting the same symptoms with the SMH dieing but service was still started.

I installed the SMH, VCA, and Insight Management Agents from 7.91A on those 3 servers and everything is working as intended now.

Re: System Management Homepage - Cannot Connect

I have the same problem on 2 BL20P G4 blades. Restarting the service resolves the issue for one access of the homepage and then its dead again. We've reinstalled the entire PSP 8.00 package multilple times and still have the same problem. SMH is version 2.1.11.197. We also have upgraded a BL20P G3 from 7.91 to 8.00 and it is working fine.

The two servers that are failing are running W2K3 SP2 and the one that works is W2K3 SP1. I wonder if its got something to do with the service pack?

Re: System Management Homepage - Cannot Connect

I upgraded the SMH to 2.1.11.197 (from PSP 8.00) that is running everything else from PSP 7.91. The server is W2K3 SP2 (BL20P G4). The problem does not happen. I'm thinking that the problem is being caused by another component of the 8.00 package.

Re: System Management Homepage - Cannot Connect

Same problem here. I am using the new WBEM agents and have completely remove SNMP and the System Management Agents. Anyone else have that configuration?

Re: System Management Homepage - Cannot Connect

I too am experiencing this issue. I've installed PSP 8.0A on multiple servers (ProLiant BL460c G1) and everything appeared to install fine. But SMH won't open - its as if it wasn't running. Checked the service and everything was fine. Restart the service and I am able to get into SMH. This always seems to happen after a reboot (since installing PSP 8.0A).
I've got 3 of these servers acting like this and possibly more. If I can't find a resolution soon I'm going to go back to PSP 7.91.

Re: System Management Homepage - Cannot Connect

It would be nice to see a response from HP on this issue.
I plan on building out a new server and upgrading the PSP components one at a time to 8.00A to see when it begins to have a problem. I am not convinved that it is the Homepage bu itselfs that is causing it to be unresponsive.

Re: System Management Homepage - Cannot Connect

OK, rebooted and get no access to SMHP. Did a stop/start on the SMHP service, got the one time only access, checked VCR was OK, and left it there. Went back a couple of hours later and the VCR page showed an internal server error, not much other detail. The actual W2K3 server was running just fine.
I guess from the response that there appears to be more to this. Will await an outcome from HP.

Re: System Management Homepage - Cannot Connect

Seems like there are several different posts about problems with 8.00a.
Ex: http://forums11.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=1215470

The common resolution seems to be to revert back to 7.91. Is HP doing anything?? Has anyone opened an actual case with them, if not I will.

Re: System Management Homepage - Cannot Connect

I opened a case a few days ago. They have moved it around internally between the SIM team and the ProLiant support team. Between these two teams is seems like they have no clue.

We'll see....I am waiting for a call back.

Re: System Management Homepage - Cannot Connect

Glad to see this chatter since I too am having the exact same issue. Have also seen other threads speaking directly to this problem of non-responsive SMH agents.

Re: System Management Homepage - Cannot Connect

Does anybody know the status of this case? I'm sure there is people around the world waiting for a solution. We staged 6 new servers this week and applied the newest SIM Servicepack. Now all the servers show this effect with the SIM page disconnectin after a few minutes after rebooting.

Re: System Management Homepage - Cannot Connect

I am still waiting for HP to get back to me on my open case. If I don't hear anything by 1pm central I will be calling them back today. If I learn anything I'll be sure to post it right away.

"Your support rep is not available at this time. Please press 1 to leave a message or press 2 to have another support rep contact you right away"

That was at 1pm, nothing yet...not impressed with the support on this one.

Re: System Management Homepage - Cannot Connect

Anyone NOT using SIM 5.2 and having this problem? After installing the VC hotfix for 5.2, the problem seems to have gone away.

I am wondering if this is just a problem with 5.2 and 8.0 Agents. Maybe SIM is "poking" the 8.0 VCAgent incorrectly causing it to bomb the SMH...and the VC hotfix fixes this.

I know - pretty unlikely, but I can't explain otherwise why the problem seems fixed now...

Re: System Management Homepage - Cannot Connect

I am running SIM 5.1 SP1 and have the problem. I will be building out a new server today just to replicate the problem. Once I have the problem reproduced again I am going to open a case with HP. I'll keep everyone posted.

Re: System Management Homepage - Cannot Connect

Here's what HP has me doing on one server with this issue.

1) Remove server from SIM
2) Manually back rev PSP to 7.8
3) Manually install PSP 7.91
4) Manually install PSP 8.00
5) Wait until Monday

Assuming the SMH doesn't crash, on Monday we will add this server back to SIM and wait.

On Tuesday assuming everything is still working...I don't know.

It is not feesible for us to back rev every server and manually step forward. So...more to come on Monday.
