System type.. more defined name.
A co-worker was told at a SIM 4.1 class that you can get more detailed on the System Type line instead of saying " server " you can modify a file to show more detailed description of that servers role. Like Database server, Apps server. Does anyone know where this can be done?? He was under the impression that it would be a text file but was never told for sure.

Re: System type.. more defined name.
"System Type" is populated by a rule in the device type manager that compares the contents of an SNMP OID to a known value and makes a decision about what type the system is. If you can find an OID that has the information you need to make a decision with, you can build it into device type manager.
More likely the instructor was referring to the "Server Role" field in the Insight agents. It is a free-form text field that you can populate with anything, and then use as a search criteria in HP SIM.
