System Type unknown

I have several very similar systems. Some show up as System type "server" and have info on the server model and OS. A few show up as system type "unknown" and no other info. I am using SNMP as the management protocol and have compared SNMP Service settings between servers that work correctly and those that don't. I'm missing something, but don't know what.

Re: System Type unknown

Unknown indicates that HPSIM has found a management protocol but cannot get enough information about the Servers. SSH in some cases.

What kind of Servers and OS are the Unknown Servers?
If you click on the Server name it brings up a page which shows the Management protocols found. Knowing that would help diagnosis.

Re: System Type unknown

They are HP Netservers running Windows 2000. The Management protocol is SNMP.

Re: System Type unknown

I think you'll need to add these as Devices.

Get the IP Address of one of these Servers.
Then go to Options / Discovery / Manage System Types.

Click New and then click the Retrieve From System button and just follow the steps.
This will build up a New Device.

Once added, you should be able to use the Options / Discovery / Identify Systems screen to trigger a reidentification and it should identify them as per your description.

Re: System Type unknown

HP Netservers are already know by HP SIM.

Do you have installed the latest HP Netserver Toptool Agents?

If you click on the Server name it brings up a page which shows a link where you can check the SNMP-Community -Strings stored in the SIM Database. They have to be the same as you configured at the servers SNMP Service.
