Task generates an error if run too soon

I am using HP SIM 5.1 with a task set up to run every minute to collect data from the local server (on which HP SIM is installed).

Every 6 mins the tasks runs OK. The other times it fails with message that it has run too soon, and instructs me to change the parameter DataCollectionMinInterval.

I have changed this parameter from 15 mins to 1 min, but still have same problem. The services/server has been restarted.
Any suggestions

Re: Task generates an error if run too soon

Just to make sure I understand, you used Options --> Data Collection, selected the CMS and then scheduled it to run every minute?

Data Collection collects configuration information into the database. By default, it runs every other week. You can schedule it to run more frequently depending on the rate of change of the configuration of your servers.

But anything more than once a day is unnecessary, and every minute is insane!

Re: Task generates an error if run too soon

Hey Arnie,

Y would you want Data Collection Every 15 MINS !!!! ???? !!!!

Or, were ur refering to Daily Device identification,... even this is done once a day !!!!

*****Bi-weekly data collection*****
The Bi Weekly Data Collection task runs on all of the systems in the Data Collection List collection. The default schedule is to run every other Saturday at noon.

Daily device identification
Use the Daily Device Identification task to identify information about systems like networking systems. This task runs once a day by default and the information is stored in the database. The following information is
identified:
â ¢ Determines Single Login and Secure Task Execution (STE) support on a managed system
â ¢ Type of management protocol on the system (HTTP, SNMP, DMI, and WBEM)
â ¢ Type and subtype of system (server, storage, switch, router, and so on)
â ¢ Product name of the system
â ¢ Operating system name and version
â ¢ Web Agents running on the system
â ¢ Web-based software running on the system, for example, printer management software
â ¢ System associations with management processors, for example, a system and its Remove Insight Board
â ¢ Storage proxies and related storage systems
â ¢ Wake-on-LAN information

Regards,
James.

Re: Task generates an error if run too soon

Thanks for this.

I need to run task so frequently as want to know about PSU and Disk status events asap.

Had problems before using the event log so did not want to use the log.

On Linux a windows utility is available to access this info, but seems that this is not available for Windows. Documentation indicated HP SIM was the thing to use.

Re: Task generates an error if run too soon

Arnie, Data Collection is not for that. First, you need to make sure that the trap destination is set properly so the agent can send a cry for help. The backup to this is the Server Status Polling task which queries health status and runs every 5 minutes. Data Collection does NOT gather any health information.

Re: Task generates an error if run too soon

The data collection task collects the info into the database, but only every 6 mins.

What task should I set up to do this? I dont want to send any traps though.
