testing insight manager and agents (on a linux proliant server)
Hi, I installed:
Systems Insight Manager 5.2 on Windows 2003
The following agents on a redhat enterprise 3 server:
- hpasmd is running...
- Foundation Agents (cmafdtn): cmathreshd cmahostd cmapeerd
- Server Agents (cmasvr): cmastdeqd cmahealthd cmaperfd
- Storage Agents (cmastor): cmaeventd cmaidad cmafcad cmaided cmascsid cmasasd
- I can see https://:2381 but could not login
For now I can only see basic snmp info (syslocation) in SIM. This means snmp is working. But I also want CPU info, hardware status, proliant serial number, disk status/info, alerts, performance monitoring and everything (like nagios can).
How can I test this? I know the snmpwalk commands, but how do I test those HP thingies?
I also want power supply info etc. Software sattus is also unknown.

Re: testing insight manager and agents (on a linux proliant server)
hi
I can see https://:2381 but could not login
Which account did you use ?
The SMH sytem management homepage uses OS credentials for authentification. It means that here you should provide a linux account with root equivalent priiviledges or root itself to login to the SMH.
To avoid these logins prompt, you can use HP SIM to use ssl based certificates to authentificate.Use the configure and repair agent tool to achieve this. You need to know at least the root password for it will use thuis account to perform the necessary snmp, ssl certificate (trust relationship),and ssh configuration.
running this tool should fix the issues you are describing :authentification, snmp trap destination as well snmp community string.
Version control can also be fixed using this tool.
hope it helps
fred
