Unmanaged Servers

Afternoon,

I upgraded My CIM installation successfully about 3 months ago. Just recently however, I moved to another server. At this point I have installed the latest HPSIM (4.1) All the agents on the servers we have are pointing to the correct management server. It does have a new IP address but all the DNS records are pointing to it and the agents and SNMP are using the hostname, not the IP.

The problem I have is that a lot of the servers are coming up saying they are unmanaged. I can click on them and browse the agents, change SNMP settings on them, see how the system board is etc. But, they are still unmanaged. As such, it seems that Im not getting alerts.

I have tried installing OpenSSH on one. This didnt resolve it, and I really dont want that anyway. The thing that I cant figure out, is that these all worked perfectly in the last version of SIM on the old server. But now, only some of them do. (why would some and not others, when their settings appear to be the same)

Does anyone know why? I can provide more detail if required.

Re: Unmanaged Servers

I should add, these are NT4 servers, all the same hardwre of Prosignia 200's. As I say some are working fine others are not. When view the server, it says under status information, Harware status and from ping. It seems its not getting the SNMP information. Even though it is set up the same as others.

Thanks

Re: Unmanaged Servers

Can you send a test trap from one of the "unmanaged" servers? If it is not received by SIM, there may be some network infrastructure blocking SNMP.

Re: Unmanaged Servers

Well that was a good suggestion. I went to one of my unmanaged servers. Went into the compaq agent and then SNMP. Send Test Trap was greyed out. So I logged into one of my managed servers. From there I was able to send a test trap. Now I just have to work out the difference. Shouldnt be any really as it used to work fine. But at least it gets me started on another tack.

If anyone knows what caused this I would bbe grateful also

Re: Unmanaged Servers

OK sorted it. Really not sure why but restarting the agents and SNMP has fixed it. Strangely enough, a reboot didnt that is why I didnt think that restarting everything would help.

So far so good though. Thanks for the direction.
