Update the Version Control Repository

Is there anyway to update JUST a NIC driver within the Version Control Repository?

Theres 1 driver in the support pack that is not as up to date as the latest version, so the error sign comes up saying theres an error but the error is a good error in that the NIC driver has the latest file. I just find the error irritating and want to update the driver in the support pack to stop it.

Thanks.

Re: Update the Version Control Repository

If you have downloaded the latest NIC Driver into the VCA, then the Status in Installed Version will reflect what is in the VCA, but the overall status will reflect the reference Paq.

I'm not too sure where you will see an error reported. If the status of the NIC Driver in the VCA is yellow then that Driver has not been updated to the latest in the VCA, it is still at the Softpaq version.

If you updated the NIC Driver with this latest update then all three columns in the VCA will show Green.

You can create your own reference paq, and I guess by playing around with the xml files you might be able to update what the softpaq expects. But, I'm not sure that you'd want to.
A softpaq is a tested bundle, it gives you a clean reference point to revert to.

Re: Update the Version Control Repository

The symbol is a upside down orange yield sign with a exclamation symbol inside.

1. The support pack version is 6.4.
2. The installed version is 7.0.
3. The latest version is 7.0.

The error states the installed version does not match the support pack version, but I want to get rid of this message/symbol so thats why I want/need to update just that individual NIC driver but i don't see a option for that.

I guess I could make this server NOT rely on the support pack then it will not match references.

Any thoughts?

Re: Update the Version Control Repository

Next to each of the flags showing your NIC driver is out of date you should see a small round gray icon with an arrow pointing down to a box. If you click this icon it will give you a mini-wizard to download and install just that item.

Re: Update the Version Control Repository

Les,
Are you seeing this in the VCA Screen?
I've got lots of Servers where I've updated the NIC Driver above the Softpaq version and there's no errors in the VCA.
e.g. from the VCA
HP ProLiant NC10xx/NC67xx/NC77xx Gigabit Ethernet NIC Driver for Windows 2000 7.40.0.0 6.64.0.0 7.40.0.0

If you're seeing the symbol in the main IM Display, what column is it in?
If SW, the try running the Software Polling Task.

Re: Update the Version Control Repository

You nailed it right on the money.

I see the VCA fine, the example your using is exactly the problem. The error is at the top of the VCA screen saying "overall software status" is orange X. The installed software version is in RED.

So how do I "software poll" as you mentioned this might be a solution? Where is that located?

Thanks.

Re: Update the Version Control Repository

What version is the VCRM?
Mine is 2.0.1.30.

I've not seen red before!

Re: Update the Version Control Repository

My version states at the bottom of the page 2.0.

Where did you download your upgrades/patches??

Re: Update the Version Control Repository

Mine also states 2.0 at the bottom, look at the VCA Page for the Server that has the VCRM.

Re: Update the Version Control Repository

Hello Les,

The VCA will compare the versions of software installed to the "Reference Support Pack" which you specified when you configured the agent.

However, like Rob, I also have servers where I have upgraded the NIC drivers above the support pack version, and that line in the VCA shows green check marks.

It seems like the best solution for your problem would be to use the VCRM to create a custom baseline, including the NIC drivers of your choice, and use that as the reference support pack. This should give you the green marks you are trying for.

Good luck,
- Steve
