Version Control Agent cannot load, but install goes fine

I have installed HP SIM Version Control Agent 2.1.4.750 on a Citrix Server, and the install went fine using the package cp005770.exe

When I attempt to open the Version Control Agent from the System Management homepage, it times out with error
1)VCA1152137918 7/5/2006 3:18:38 PM An error occurred while performing an operating system specific operation.
2) VCA1152137918 7/5/2006 3:18:40 PM An unknown exception occurred while processing a request.

I have uninstalled all previous Version Control Agents, and have successfully installed the same Version Control Agent on a citrix test machine, and have no problems. I have previously loaded the full HP SIM 5 for Windows onto the citrix test machine and one of the packages that was installed is called Pegasus WMI Mapper, and that is the only difference with regards to HP installed programs when comparing the production server to the test server.

My question is, do I need the Pegasus WMI Mapper installed on the computer to have the Version Control Agent to work. If not does anybody know what operating system specific operation is failing, I can include the Windows error if needed.

There is no relationship or interaction with the WMI Mapper and Version Control.

Thanks, but I have previously uninstalled all version control agents, (just one was present) and have installed the latest version control agents and the error isn't when the install happens, the error isn't on the installation. I do run citrix metaframe presentation server 4 though and Windows Server 2003 standard on all of my citrix servers.

How can I check if all previous HP Smartstart CD Programs are uninstalled?

The VCA does not require the Pegasus WMI Mapper. That is used by HPSIM for WEBM - not VC. I don't know what the error is that you are seeing - if you have a more specific error message you might include that in case someone has seen it. Citrix and Terminal Server can cause problems with some applications - if you have not tried it yet you might try an uninstall and then a reinstall to see if that changes the behavior at all.

I have uninstalled the HP VCA, rebooted, installed the VCA, rebooted, opened the system management homepage, latest version for Windows Server 2003 standard, and the first error is

Seems that the vcagent (HP VERSION CONTROL AGENT) is the culprit.

There are no windows application or security errors in the event viewer either and the install runs fine using cp005770.exe configured the same way as my test machine.

Do I need to package the cp005770.exe with Citrix Installation Package Manager, or should it just install fine in this environment? I will try the installation package manager in the mean time, but some input would be helpful, in figuring out why the timeout is happening on vcagent.

It looks like the install is good - the VC Agent is not responding in a timely manner. Reasons for the VC Agent to not respond in time usually revolve around the inability of the agent to contact the server running the VCRM. The VC agent should be configured with valid credentials to login into the SMH that is running the VCRM. Please check the configuration of the VCA to make sure that it has valid login credentials and is pointing to a VCRM repoository. You cannot use "Administrator" as the login ID - if you have questions about how to configure the VC there are online docs that explain this.

If it is properly configured then you might check to see if there is some firewall or other network obstruction that is keeping the VCA from contacting the VCRM in time.
