Version Control Agent Encountered a Problem 7.40b and 7.51
I noticed that when a server was moved into a Domain the VCA started to come up with "Version Control Agent Encountered a Problem" errors and SIMH was occasionally coming up with time-out errors, but all was working succesfully prior to this.
Turns out that a GPO in the AD was configuring the SNMP settings for the servers, and setting the permitted managers (localhost and the SIM server were included). But for some reason VCA does not like this. Unfortunately in my environment I am unable to just switch off the GPO.
I hacked around in the registry and removed the SNMP policy key and added the permitted managers under the currentcontrolset, and removed the private community name. Restarted SNMP service and Foundation Agents. VCA then worked correctly.
Within SIMH I checked the settings for SNMP Web Agent security and noticed that with the policy applied the settings appeared blank, but after the registry hack it was fully populated.
So it appears that the SNMP Web Agent is not looking at the alternate registry key (or has never heard of GPOs). Has anyone found a fix for this, without needing to switch off the GPO and going through hundreds of servers setting SNMP configs. It would probably resolve a lot of probs if HP looked at getting this fixed.
