Am getting "The Version Control Agent encountered an error while obtaing software and firmware inventory".
Have uninstalled the VCA rebooted then reinstalled all to no avail.

Solution
This might not be your solution, but I got that (and other things) yesterday on a system which did NOT have the SNMP service installed when it was setup with W2k3. That system had not been setup with SmartStart which offers the SNMP installation to you (but rather straight from Win2k3 which doesn't install it by default).
Unfortunately, pushing the "Proliant Support Pack Install" from HP-SIM to that server, did not detect that SNMP was not installed on the target system.
Hence, after the SNMP Service installation (from the W2k3 CD), the Support Pack has to be re-installed. Make sure that force (tick mark) a re-installation of what was installed the first time (not sure why, but only that worked for me).
