Version Control Agent in SIM 4.2

When I access the /vcagent link from the sys home page of a server with the vca installed I get an "Error obtaning inventory". When I look at the logs tab it's indicating an SNMP Timeout error. I tried running a netmon capture and didn't event see any SNMP packets. What is VCA using SNMP to do? The agent was installed and configured to communicate with the CMS where the repository is populated and working correctly on the MS side.

Re: Version Control Agent in SIM 4.2

The VCA now uses a different access method to communicate with the new Management Page.

I've created a local account on the HPSIM/VCRM Server and I use this when configuring the VCA's.

Out of interest, what happens if you access the VCRM Link from the Links tab on the Server that has the VCRM installed?

No idea why SNMP is being mentioned either, like you I wasn't aware it was involved.

Re: Version Control Agent in SIM 4.2

I'm using the same domain account that the CMS is running as. It's also a local admin on every server. Shouldn't that work? How do you change the VCA settings after it's installed?

Re: Version Control Agent in SIM 4.2

Go to the VCA for any Server and there should be a Change Agent Settings from the Home Page.

You can change settings there and test.
Once you're happy you can use HPSIM to deploy that change to other Servers, using the first Server as a template.
Finally you would reconfigure the Agent in the Repository so that future deployments had the correct details.

OK -- all I see in the VCA home page is the "Home" and "Logs" tab. I'm doing this on a test server so I've been uninstalling and re-installing trying different user accounts. I was using the domain account that has admin rights to the server then I changed to using the "Administrator" account and password for the VCRM and that didn't work either.

Re: Version Control Agent in SIM 4.2

On the Home Tab, at the left you should have the Change Agent Settings.

Is the VCRM on the same Server as HPSIM 4.2?

If so, try creating a local account with Admin rights on the HPSIM Server, e.g. VCAAccess with a suitably cryptic password.
Use these details in the VCA Config, it should connect to the VCRM.

Re: Version Control Agent in SIM 4.2

I just tried creating a local account on the CMS with Admin rights and configured the agent to use that account when I did the install and it still won't connect. I'll check the version of the VCRM next.

I receive the error "The Version Control Agent encountered an error while obtaining the software and firmware inventory" when loading the "Home" and all it displays is this error -- there isn't even a left frame on the page. I know what you're talking about now -- it's just not loading because of this error.

Re: Version Control Agent in SIM 4.2

Versions are the same 2.0.7.10 on both the VCA and VCRM. So far I've tried:
- creating a local user with admin access on the VCRM and configured the agent install to use this account and password.
- I verified the versions are the same.
- I tried logging into the sys management page on the VCRM with the local user created and that worked.

I'm still getting an error when the agent tries to log in to the VCRM saying user account or password invalid. But I did log in to the sys mgmt page on the VCRM successfully.
