Version Control Agent Software Update

I am trying to upgrade the Advanced System Management Controller Driver from version 5.22.2195.0 to 5.32.2195.0 on two NAS B3000 servers running Windows 2000 that are members of the same cluster.

I updated the servers with release 7.0 of the HP Support Pack from what I believe was version 6.2. Now everything is updated except the Advanced System Management Controller Driver, the HP ProLiant Smart Array 5x and 6x Controller Driver, and the NIC Driver.

I tried using the update software option in Version Control Agent, but it returns a status of 3, indicationg that the software is already installed. I am using 2000 version 7.00A (English (US), Japanese)as the Reference Support Pack and the Version Control Agent is indicating that these three drivers are out of date.

When I try installing the drivers manually by running the Smart Start component on the server, it also tells me that I do not need to install the software.

What am I missing?

Called me stupid, but are the new drivers installed but awaiting a reboot?

Good question. Yes, I did reboot after each attempt.

Re: Version Control Agent Software Update

The VCA allows components to be overwritten if they are up to date or newer (although as you say this is not the case), have you tried ticking this option, 'Force Installation', before installing the components?

Re: Version Control Agent Software Update

Yes, I did try that option, I also tried installing the updates individually and collectively from the Version Control Agent interface.

Re: Version Control Agent Software Update

I don't know about the NAS Devices, check there isn't another type of Controller Driver.
e.g. on Proliant DL380 G3's it uses the "HP ProLiant iLO Advanced System Management Controller Driver for Windows 2000"

It may be that you have an old driver that is no longer used.
I've seen this on Servers that have had hardware changed, the old drivers are still installed but not used. The Agent reports that they're not up to date but will not update them because they're not needed.

Re: Version Control Agent Software Update

I have found the issue. The drivers were actually updated, but for some reason the Version Control Agent still lists the drivers as out of date even though it had successfully updated them. I should have checked this earlier.

Re: Version Control Agent Software Update

Rob, I have that same issue with a dl380 the VCA is reporting the HP ProLiant Smart Array Device Manager Extension for Windows 2000/Server 2003 is at version 5.04 and the PSP has 5.8.0.32. THe agent is reporting its out of date but will not update it beacuse it says it does not need to be installed.
Have you found a way to remedy this?

THanks
