Virtual Server 2005

If you have a server currently running Insight Manager 7 SP2.3 can you install Virtual Server 2005 and then install HP System Insight Manager 4.1 successfully?

Re: Virtual Server 2005

To be clear, do you mean:

- current server running Windows Server 2003 and hosting IM7
- install Virtual Server 2005 application
- install HP SIM 4.1 application and run the Data Migration Tool

There should be no specific issue as long as HP SIM is being hosted on the physical machine and not in a VM. Though there's nothing preventing you from running HP SIM in a VM (I myself do it sometimes for demo purposes) it is not a supported configuration. This is mainly due to the fact that HP SIM is rather resource intensive and the overhead of virtualization can interfere with its operation.

Re: Virtual Server 2005

To be more specific the server is Windows 2000 and hosting IM7 with SQL 2000 as the database. I want to be able to load SIM 4.1 on the same server, migrate the data and uninstall IM7. The last thing i read was you could not have IM7 and SIM 4.1 running on the same box. Hence the question about Vitual Server 2005.

Re: Virtual Server 2005

Okay, that is clearer. Starting with a IM7 server and wanting to end up with an HP SIM server on the same box is enabled through the Data Migration Tool. It takes care of all that. For more, see "Transitioning from Insight Managerâ ¢ 7 to HP Systems Insight Manager 4.1" at http://www.hp.com/servers/manage --> HP SIM --> Information libr

Re: Virtual Server 2005

I should have taken a closer look at the documentation. Good job.
