My virtual GSX servers used to display System Type (or Product name?) as "VMware virtual server" or something...
Now they are just "Unknown"? Product name and OS name is blank....
I think this happened when upgrading to GSX 3.0 but I'm not sure.
Regards,
Ole Thomsen

I haven't seen it on GSX, but on ESX it comes back as "VMware Virtual Platform."
This information comes from WMI, so make sure that HP SIM has WBEM services enabled, has a valid password for it and that the WMI Mapper is installed and configured.

Re: VMware servers GSX System Type
Thanks a lot!
WBEM was enabled, but no user added.
After doing that and running a device identification, they show VMware Virtual Platform as productname and the correct OS.
System Type is still "unknown", but that may be discovered in another task i guess.

Ole Thomsen

Re: VMware servers GSX System Type
Because VMware tries to appear as close to a physical system, I've yet to find information that could be used as a rule to classify the virtual machine...
