VPM can't acquire Updates
I've installed SIM 4.2 on a Win2k3 server using a "typical" install. I then installed VPM but when I tried to acquire updates I get an authentication failed error and the message below in stderr box. Btw, I installed both SIM and VPM using the local admin account. Because this is a new server I had the luxury to reinstall (just in case I used a domain account for the VPM install the first time) However I got the same error with the second install. Any and all ideas would be appreciated.

Re: VPM can't acquire Updates
The error indicates SSH is giving the problem. VPM uses SSH to communicate with the HPSIM Server (even if it is on the same box).
Check you've followed the instructions in the various Readme and Re3lease notes files as regards setting up SSH and the WBEM parameters.
You should be able to use the SSH Utility or any SSH Client to login to the SSH Daemon on the HPSIM Server to test access.

Re: VPM can't acquire Updates
Thanks for the reply but you could be more specific? Let me state again that this is still a relatively "vanilla" install, and I'm early in the install process. I've done a typical install of SIM 4.2 using the local administrator account. I've set up VPM using that very same account. I've not set up anything with SSH, other than verify that there is "administrator" listed in the "passwd" file. As far as WBEM, I've tried every combination I can think of e.g. servername\administrator, just "administrator", "Administrator" with a capital "A". I"ve read the readme and the release notes, and I've not seen anything I've missed. So you mentioned SSH utility, which one? mkpasswd? Could you give an example? Or could someone who's successfully set this up give me a specific list of steps that were successful? thanx.

Re: VPM can't acquire Updates
You can get more information on troubleshooting this problem in the white paper "Secure Shell (SSH) in HP Systems Insight Manager" which is available at http://www.hp.com/go/hpsim --> information library --> white papers
VPM configures the user it's tasks run under during installation as the user that installed the VPM software. This is the user that must be configured in openSSH.
