Windows XP

I have recently installed HP SIM 4.2 and it can recognise all of my clients and servers from their DMI agents except my WinXP machines. These are only recognised if manually added (and then only retrieved by ping; not DMI). I have disabled windows firewall but still no joy. Any ideas?

Re: Windows XP

Tim,

Have you looked at your discovery filters?

1) Select the "Options" menu
2) Click on the "Discovery" sub-menu
3) Click on the "Automatic Discovery..." sub-menu
4) In the middle of the screen, click on the "discovery filters" link.
5) Make sure the "Desktop" and "Workstation" checkboxes are checked.

Additionally, I think HP has some management agents for workstations that might need to be installed on the WinXP boxes. Perhaps this is what you need:

I only use SIM for servers, so I am not sure exactly what is needed. But I hope this helps.

Re: Windows XP

Thanks for the suggestion but this doesn;t seem to have done the trick.

Yes, I have looked at the Altiris Client Manager but fear that this is going to end up costing big money for licenses.

Must be a way of keeping with Insight Manager for desktops?

Re: Windows XP

HP Client Manager is *FREE* and there are no license fees. This allows you to do monitoring, inventory, and use the System Software Manager to update firmware and drivers. There also are features to enable things found on some HP or Compaq client systems such as case lock.

There are extensions to HP Client Manager that do have license fees associated with them, such as deployment and patch updates.
