Poor disk performance with e208i-p raid controller
Hello,
I hope I use the correct board. If not please move this threat to the correct board.
I own a HPE Microserver Gen10 plus with a e208i-p smart array controller. I attached 4 disks and I created 2 separate arrays with raid1. I recognize a very poor disk performance on XCP-NG and Proxmox VE 8. The installation is very slow and on a virtual Linux machine I reach only 5mb/s write speed (2 cores, 4GB RAM assigned, guest tools installed). I used the latest SPP for the server and raid controller so all firmwares should be up to date. When I remove the storage controller and use the software raid, the performance is much better. On Unraid without any raid settings the performance is good as well. The controller is supported by XCP-NG and Proxmox.
Does anyone has a clue why the performance is so bad? I don't expect extreme performance with 7200rpm hdds but 5mb/s is not what I expected.
Thanks in advance
Cheers, PaW├дl

Re: Poor disk performance with e208i-p raid controller
Hi There,
Thank you for the response.
We might need more logs in for detailed analysis and would suggest to log support case.
Meanwhile, here's the quickspecs of the server wherein you can check the OS compatibility with XCP-NG and Proxmox VE 8.

Re: Poor disk performance with e208i-p raid controller
Hi,
can you please tell me which logs do you need? And where do I find them?
The e208i-p is supported by XenServer. I created 2 arrays (one with 2x 1TB HDD on raid 1 and one with 2x 4TB HDD on raid 1). After that I performed a clean install of XenServer, created an Ubuntu VM (4 cores, 4GB RAM, guest tools installed) and when I copy a 13GB file from another machine with 1GB ethernet the speed is aroung 14 mb/s (according to XenCenter performance monitor). After the copy process I tried to extract this file and again the speed is around 14 mb/s, CPU is around 5%. If I repeat the same process without the raid controller, disk speed is around 50 mb/s

Re: Poor disk performance with e208i-p raid controller
Hi,
We would require the AHS logs and the ADU logs.
It is also suggested to log a case with our support via HPE Support Center for further issue isolation.
