Re: web console, which port to authenticate?
The web console authentication is via HTTP/80. However, once authenticated, a telnet/23 connection is attempted.
Refer to the following detailed analysis for more information:
http://rr.sans.org/unix/web_console.php
Hope this helps. Regards.

Re: web console, which port to authenticate?
Not to happy if i have to open up telnet port, to get access though.
Makes security a bit awkward!

Re: web console, which port to authenticate?
Are you trying to access the web console remotely and through a firewall? Is the web console built into the server or an external one? Is it the branded HP one or Arula?
live free or die

Re: web console, which port to authenticate?
I do have a firewall on the pc that i'm using as a router between cable modem and the web console on internal lan, which is why i needed to know which ports were used.
I'm using wingate to route between int/ext ip's.
The web console is a standard external hp one connected to my faithful I50.
I want this to be a test server, that people can use to practice admin tasks.
But i dont want it to be abused, i'm not having any n/w connections out from it, hence the web console.
Have fun
George

Re: web console, which port to authenticate?
First thing I'd verify is that a standard terminal works as the console (just to rule out console port issues).

Re: web console, which port to authenticate?
Shooved a packet sniffer on and noticed that it uses variable ports for the java stuff, which is a major pain.
Trying to come up with a plan b at the moment.
Cheers
