I wanted to know if we have to set up an Ubuntu server ourselves before installing HPE on top of it, or if there’s a package that does everything and that I might have overlooked.

Re: Deployment Information
Hi @cxs-user ,
You do need to set up Ubuntu yourself first. HPE does not provide a bundled installer that automatically lays down Ubuntu and then installs HPE software on top — instead, HPE supports specific Ubuntu LTS releases, and once those are installed, you can add HPE tools, firmware, and management packages.
Deployment Approach 1. Base Operating System
Ubuntu Server must be installed manually before deploying HPE software.
HPE supports Canonical Ubuntu LTS versions (e.g., 20.04 LTS, 22.04 LTS) on certified HPE hardware.
You should follow the minimum OS requirements published by HPE for Ubuntu on their servers.
2. HPE Software Layer
After Ubuntu is installed, you can deploy HPE packages such as:
HPE iLO utilities (for firmware verification, logging, and repair actions).
HPE Service Packs for ProLiant (SPP) or firmware bundles for updates.
HPE management tools (Active Health System, Integrated Management Log, etc.).
3. Integration with Canonical
HPE and Canonical collaborate to ensure hardware–software compatibility.
This partnership provides reference designs for OpenStack, Kubernetes, and Ceph deployments on HPE servers.
However, these are solution blueprints, not automated installers — you still start with a working Ubuntu base.
I recommend you to install Ubuntu Server yourself first. Once it’s running, HPE provides certified support, firmware packages, and management tools to integrate with that environment.
Thank you!
