DL100 rebuild problem

Agreed.

You can put brand new, uninitialised drives in the DL100 (you must have the full complement of four drives), insert the QR and it will do *everything* required. The only issue is that the array size is then fixed at around 9GB for each OS (there are two of them in RAID 1 partitions divided across two disks each) and the rest of the space across all four drives is assigned to a single RAID 5 array.

To anser previus question, I upgraded RAID ROM becouse I even tried to instal WSS manualy. I still have the old ROM saved so if it will be needed i will go back to the old one.

I made the upgrade with flash tool and rom from adaptec site.

If it woudn't make a difference then it's possible that after upgrade we can use bigger drives then 500GB :D

OK, well I don't think installing a new firmware is a good idea, not because I know it doesn't work, but because I don't *know* it does, if you see what I mean!

With regards to 500GB drives being the maximum, where did you hear that? I've never actually installed 1 TB drives in the HP DL100 but I don't see why it wouldn't work. However, I have installed 1 TB drives in a Dell 745n and that worked fine, although it was using software RAID.

Before I landed here i readed somewhere that this is possible after upgrafing ROM of the RAID CONTROLLER. I recovered the OS and even got WSS 2k3 R2 upgrade kit from HP support for free. I will test upgrade and stability this week. But I have one quastion, the are 2 WSS OS (!) is the second one only fresh copy or are they somehow connected ? I also got new Quick Recovery DVD from HP, now its only 1 DVD, must try it too :)

PS. for recovery it must bee HP usb DVD drive or Multibay ... ATA and SATA DVD drives won't work.

So far so good ... I restored the old RAID ROM ... and still I can see 1TB drives ... I'm trying to get 4 of them and try out QR again, it should work also :)

4x1TB RAID5 (3TB) is what I need ... and seems it could work ... will see soon :)
