Error 4039: Media data error detected
I received a new HP storageworks DAT 72X10 autoloader and DDS-4 Cartridges last week. On my Proliant ML350 G5 (win2003 R2), I installed HP Data protector Express SE v3.10. Since Monday I've tried several times to back up my 130 Gb data but always failed, with "Error 4039: Media data error detected" message.
i'm afraid I bought wrong cartridges. Any suggestions?

Re: Error 4039: Media data error detected
DDS4 cartridges are actually DAT 40 but should work fine with the DAT 72 drive. A couple of things to check.
First, upgrade to the latest version of Data Protector Express. Version 3.5 SP2 is avaialble at: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=1144275&prodTypeId=12169&prodSeriesId=1144272&swLang=13&taskId=135&swEnvOID=1005
Next, assuming your DL350 G5 disk storage is RAID, make sure that your autoloader is not connected to the same SCSI port as the RAID. This is not supported by any HP tape device. You may need to purchase a separate SCSI card for the autoloader.
Finally, make sure you are using the latest DAT 72 drivers from HP. These are available for download at:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=US&swItem=co-47869-2&prodTypeId=12169&prodSeriesId=1144272

Re: Error 4039: Media data error detected
Today I did Exactly as you mentioned to do so I upgraded my HP data protector to V3.5, updated the Dat 72 driver and firmware but still receive error 4039 when I did an Indentify media. In fact today I received new error 1040 which is saying my device offline and cannot be used at all. It's been more than one week since I bought this device but never use it even once.
What should I do? is this a hardware problem?

Re: Error 4039: Media data error detected
Sorry for the delayed answer. I might be a hardware issue or a tape problem. Contact your local HP support for more assistance. You can find the local number on http://hp.com/go/support
