VMFS VMWare UNMAP
Hi,
I have read that UNMAP is supported in more recent versions of the LeftHand OS but when I try and do this it shows delete status unsuported against all of the LUNS across the P4500's and P4335's we have.
The article I am following is: http://blogs.vmware.com/vsphere/2012/04/vaai-thin-provisioning-block-reclaimunmap-in-action.html
The command I run to see this is: 'esxcli storage core device vaai status get -d <naa>'
The LUN's are all configured as thin provisioned on the SAN so this should be supported as far as VMware goes. I am wondering if there is something I need to do in the CSM or if the LeftHand OS just does not support UNMAP?
Thanks
Chris

Re: VMFS VMWare UNMAP
Hi Chris
Believe you have to use the following command
esxcli storage vmfs unmap -l <volume_name>
You have to run v12.0 or newer for this to work.
You also have to enable the feature somewhere in StoreVirtual CMC, but I cannot seem to find exactly where right now.

Re: VMFS VMWare UNMAP
To update this topic.
We had enabled the feature and were on the correct versions etc.
The issue we had is that when the feature was enabled, it didn't actually enable it on the array. This was apparently because we were too close to the limit on array memory. We were however within the recommended memory/data size as per the HP docs.
We had to contact support and after a while they logged in to the support CLI and changed some settings, we had to reboot the array and then the setting was shown as enabled correctly. After this UNMAP would work.
