Cannot ping switch through another switch

Hi,
Can anyone tell me why I would be unable to ping a 5412zl if the computer sending the ping is attached to any other switch? It is set up like a star topology with the 5412 in the middle and multiple other hp switches off of it.
If the computer is attached to the 5412 it pings fine.
I can ping all other switches from any switch.
I have tried different computers with no luck also.
The 5412zl works fine apart from that.
