Re: Qlogic driver

hi,

it's depend on you if you like to use the qlogic driver from REDHAT ( directly build in to linux kernel ) or you will use the drivers from QLOGIC directly.

if you upgrade linux RHEL4(6) ==> RHEL4(8), there could be a updated kernel module.

For example i have CentOS installed :

[root@tux ~]# modinfo qla2xxx | head -10
filename: /lib/modules/2.6.18-92.1.18.el5PAE/kernel/drivers/scsi/qla2xxx/qla2xxx.ko
version: 8.02.00-k5-rhel5.2-04
license: GPL
description: QLogic Fibre Channel HBA Driver
author: QLogic Corporation
srcversion: CF1711D4A9A59578231EF49
alias: pci:v00001077d00002532sv*sd*bc*sc*i*
alias: pci:v00001077d00005432sv*sd*bc*sc*i*
alias: pci:v00001077d00005422sv*sd*bc*sc*i*
alias: pci:v00001077d00002432sv*sd*bc*sc*i*

[root@tux ~]# powermt version
EMC powermt for PowerPath (c) Version 5.1 SP 2 (build 21)

[root@tux ~]# uname -a
Linux tux.xyz.tld 2.6.18-92.1.18.el5PAE #1 SMP Wed Nov 12 10:02:30 EST 2008 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux

the qlogic driver is defaulf from RedHat/CentOS kernel, and the powerpath is working without any problem.

Re: Qlogic driver

the kernel update should have a newer driver. Is the initrd image getting rebuilt with the newer driver after the kernel upgrade?

Re: Qlogic driver

Search Google for generating Red Hat initrd, you'll find plenty of howtos
