Restrict users who are sending mails using alias.

Dear All,

I am using sendmail with openwebmail as a internal mail server
. I created alluser alias in the /etc/aliases file to send group mail to all the users in the system. I need to configure only limited persons should ( like manageres ) send email using the alias name and others should be restricted. ( Put the alias email id in BCC is the another way ) But i need to configure this thing. Can some one tell me how to do this.

Thanks in Advance.

Configuring sendmail rules are hard. You have a similar code here:

http://www.sendmail.org/~ca/email/examples/Internal.aliases.html

The code there allows the sending of local users to local aliases. You must modify the code to get the list of permited users instead of valid users. Read the O'Reilly Sendmail book.

Re: Restrict users who are sending mails using alias.

Shalom,

This is really hard to do with sendmail.

It can be done with modifications to the configuration in Ivan's link.

I was wondering however how the email is being submitted.

If only the managers new the alias email addresses, this would prevent regular users from using the aliases.

So with a little non system administration you can get the job done.

Unless you are talking about a bunch of unruly systems administrators it might be possible to get this done without too much work.
