Configuring 4100N with Microsoft Server 2003

How do I configure my 4100N system printer to my new network using a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 package? It used to be easy to configure to my old NT server.

Debra:

Here's a link to the Windows Server 2003-specific drivers:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DriverDownload.jsp?locale=en_US&pnameOID=29120&taskId=135&prodTypeId=18972&prodSeriesId=83436&submit.y=6&submit.x=6〈=en&cc=us&swEnvOID=1005

Once they're installed at the server (along with any other OS-specific drivers), then the server can distribute drivers to the individual computers. If you simply want to access the printer directly (without using the server), we would need to know what OS your computer is running.

I am suffering a similar problem - I tried the link Roger kindly posted but to no avail. I've made a full posting as of today, the transcript is as follows:

I am running Windows 2003 server and have successfully added the latest drivers for my fleet of Laserjet 4100 Printers. My Windows 2000 and XP clients print to the 4100 - no problems. Windows NT clients will simply not work. I have tried adding 'additional drivers' in the properties and sharing tabs but every time I click the button it simply refuses to acknowledge the .inf file I am feeding it : at the "Printer Drivers for Windows NT 4.0 (x86 processor)" I am pointing it to the hp4100ps.inf file - it reports "Windows
cannot locate a suitable printer driver. Contact your administrator for
help locating and installing a suitable driver." What file is looking for? - I've even tried looking on my 2003 Server Cd for suitable candidates.
I found this link http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c00026822 - am I suffering a related problem. Please help I have many 4100N printers and many unhappy Windows NT users unable to print as of today.

I've spent a whole day playing with this and it's driving me a bit nuts now!

Re: Configuring 4100N with Microsoft Server 2003

Thanks, I've got one workstation still using Windows 98 SE. My IT guy got back to me and informed me that I'm gonna have to upgrade the OS on all my workstations to a minimum of Win2000 to get everything to work.

In the meantime, I was able to manually configure the printer to my workstations using either the hardware address or by assigning a unique IP address [my old NT system used to let me automatically assign an IP address to the printer--ain't progress grand?]

thanks for the useful suggestions..
