Creating a partition or volume

I am setting up a new server on my own for the first time. It has raid 5. I loaded Windows Server 2003. The drive is dynamic. Currently it has only one partition. I need to create at least one more but following all of the suggestions from Microsoft don't seem to be working. I don't even get the option to create a new partition or volume. Can I still do this or did I miss my opportunitiy? What should I do now?

Re: Creating a partition or volume

Not too much detail here so will have to make a few assumptions.

I guess you have created a RAID5 set from three orr more physical disks. When you installed Windows you will have been presented with the logical disk space that was created from RAID5. From this space you will have chosen to create a partition.

If you selected all the available space then that's it, you have used up all of your disk space on the C:\ drive.

If you typed in a size for the first partition that was less than that available, the remaining space will show up within Windows -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management -> Disk management as unassigned space on your dynamic disk. This being the case you can right click in that area and create a partition.

My guess is that you used it all up on the C:\ drive. If this is the case then I'm afraid the best thing you can do is start again.

Thanks. I thought that was going to be the case. Just wanted to confirm that was my only option.

Pat,

Did you sort this ok. I notice that the thread is still open and you have not assigned points.
