Firewire issues

I have placed an adaptec firewire 4300 card in an ML 570 G2 rack mount server for use with VXA tape drives. THe card is recognized by the server and works correctly with one drive connected. Unfortunately only one drive can be connected, there is room for three connetions. Every time I conect the second drive, the slot issues an error. Are there any known issues with these cards and the ML 570. HP support has not been helpful.

Re: Firewire issues

What are the power requirements of the devices you are trying to hook up? You might be overloading the card's capabilities.

An old trick I use when I run into this is use an active hub to supply the power to multiple devices instead of from the card itself.

Each tape drive requires 5 volts according to the manufacturer.

Each tape drive requires 5 volts according to the manufacturer. The card is an adaptec firewire 4300. Could the slot be an issue ? It is plugged into one of the hot swap slots.
