Having problem with the print spooler

Hi, my win2003 server is having problem with the print spooler.
The following error will pop up intermittenly, and the print jobs will hang
until i click the "ok", or reset the print spooler.
"The print spooler was unable to connect to your printer. This can be caused
by your printer being turned off, the cable being unplugged, or being
connected to a VPN, which will block your access to your local network."

All of the printers are HP and using TCP/IP. All firmware have been updated
by the HP download manager. Does anyone know how to fix it?

Regards,
Bhavin Shah

Re: Having problem with the print spooler

Hi...

Could you please check the network connection between the system and printer or you can check it with swapping the switch's port for printer.

If it is Network printer try pinging it for a while and check the time delay.

Abhijit.

Re: Having problem with the print spooler

Is this problem with a specific printer, all printers or all printers of the same type. Try updating your printer driver, check that you can connect to the printer (using ping, telnet to the port, web) when the problem occurs.
Por que hacerlo dificil si es posible hacerlo facil? - Why do it the hard way, when you can do it the easy way?

Re: Having problem with the print spooler

Do you use "HP TCP/IP port" or "Standard TCP/IP port"?
Any errors in event viewer?

Re: Having problem with the print spooler

Hi all,

Network connection is ok and also check it with swapping the switch's port for printer.this problem is not with specific printer. it is random with network printer.

No errors in eventlog. ports are configured with HP Standard TCP/IP and MS standard TCP/IP. Drivers/patches are up to date.
Please advise.

Thanks.

Re: Having problem with the print spooler

Bhavin,
Replace all "HP Standard TCP/IP Port" with the "Standard TCP/IP Port" .
I hope it will solve the problem.
If no - read Giuseppe Nacci recommendation here (I HAVE NOT TRIED IT, do it on your risk):

Re: Having problem with the print spooler

I have had to do this on several servers in the past - it works fine, but I would advise you save the reg key(s) before stripping out the extra settings if you are at all of a nervous disposition...

ALWAYS use Standard TCP/IP Port rather than HP Port, ALWAYS remove the HP Port from the registry using the previous advice if it does end up as an option on your servers in error - once it's there, so many people use it when installing HP printers...

Re: Having problem with the print spooler

I am having the same trouble with my HP Officejet Pro 550, but sporadic from either of my two laptops connected via wireless. The IP address on the Port config. matches the Network Config. page from the printer. Otherwise, I'm having trouble following the suggestions because I don't know how to do them. Can someone please tell me how to "ping" the printer? (I can ping URLs, but never heard of pinging a printer!) Also, I have no idea how to change HP Standard TCP/IP for MS standard TCP/IP. Can someone tell me where to look and what to do? Thank you so much!
