INSTALL OLD SERVER DISK INTO A NEW SERVER

Dear All,

I have SCSI hard disk setup as a mirror to run Windows 2003 server. If the server ML330 fail, can I use this hard disk to install on a new server ML350.

Re: INSTALL OLD SERVER DISK INTO A NEW SERVER

HI,
the Raid controllers of the 350 should support this SCSI disk, with this information nobody can really tell.

Futher if you wnat to use the OS installed on the mirror that would not be possible. Big change is that all the data on the mirror would be gone bacause the raid controller has to built a new raidset.
If you want to transplant the system you should make a full systemstate backup and backup of all the data. Install Windows2003 on the new system and put the system state and the files back.

Have a nice day,

Thank you for your reply.

If we don't have a tape backup can I mount the old hard drive into ML350 to get the data back. Windows 2003 already install on ML350. Is it possible?

Re: INSTALL OLD SERVER DISK INTO A NEW SERVER

Hi again,
You mean that you want to mount the orginal mirror disks in the new server.
To be honest I'm not sure if you rebuilt the mirror on the new controller your data will be lost, but if you connect one disk it may see something, but I never done this.

Sorry I can not be of much more help.
BTW, you may want to post your question here: http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/categoryhome.do?categoryId=264

Have a nice day,
