Operating System Fails to Load
The 532 Raid Controller in my ML350 G3 appeared to have failed. Engineer replaced the 532 controller which then gave the impression of working correctly. After a couple of reboots it appeared to have recognized the array configuration but Windows 2000 will not boot. Checked everything, all test programs appear to indicate that the 532 is working and can see the drive and that the machines itself is entirely functional. Have checked all Bios settings also. But system goes thru all it's POST routines and eventually beeps twice (general failure) and does not appear to try to start Win2K.
I cannot really believe that the operating system got trashed so I'm wondering if there is some option that needs to be reset to tell the system to try and boot windows from the array.
Any ideas much appreciated.
Mike

Re: Operating System Fails to Load
Mike:
If the replacement SA532 firmware were different than the previous SA532, I think it could cause your symptom. The system BIOS might need to be upgraded or even the hard drive firmware.
I would start here:

Re: Operating System Fails to Load
The problem has been solved. The 532 controller had (perhaps with a little help from the engineer who replaced the card) recreated the array configuration wrongly. It had included the hot spare as a single RAID 0 drive) thus windows tried to boot from this drive which was completely blank. Once the hot spare had been deleted from the disks managed by the controller all was well and windows could be booted from the rmaining raid 5 array.
