Oracle 10g R2 Database

Dear all,
I am using Oracle database 10g on Windows server 2003.And application forms and reports 6i.
I detemined that users that were accessing a database via a wan connection were being timed out or LOGOFF BY CLEANUP. It wasn't the application that was causing the apparent hangs.How to fix the issue?
