Problem with spooler sub system

Problem with spooler sub system

Why does spooler sub system not show my printer as having an error, even though the printer is down?

Re: Problem with spooler sub system

What mfgr/model is the printer? What is the driver version?
Is SP1 installed on W2K3?

Re: Problem with spooler sub system

Hi:

I assume you've tried removing and re-adding the printer(s). Is this an AD environment?
Have you activated the print server in Managing your Server?
Are this locally-attached or network-attached printers?
If network-attached, are you using Standard TCP/IP ports?

Re: Problem with spooler sub system

If you've directly attached the printer to the server through a parallel cable, make sure that the cable is a newer bi-directional cable, otherwise the printer can't communicate with the server.

If you've unchecked "bi-directional support" from within the printer options, the printer won't talk to the server.

Re: Problem with spooler sub system

Just noticed your comment about the "HP Standard TCP/IP port". I've had better luck creating and using a Standard TCP/IP port (not an HP port).

Confirm the port settings, or else delete the port and create a standard TCP/IP port.

Re: Problem with spooler sub system

Using Standard TCP/IP Port Monitor solved that problem
