John:

I'm having trougble believing it but this guy says he fixed a very similar problem by turning off the password-protected screensaver:

Re: The previous system shutdown was unexpected Reason Code: 0xa000000

Roger,

Thanks for the response. I do have a GPO that enforces the screen saver/password protected option after 900 seconds however I to0 dont believe this is the cause but you never know... The server has been running for over a month in production at our DR site and this just happened. I had it also happen on another DL580 G5 with the same specs in our primary location and ended up disabling the ASR option in the HP management tools. All of the servers in the domain use this GPO and only the two new DL580's have had this un-expected shutdown issue. The common thing between the two DL580's is the QLogic HBA controllers which are connected to the MSA1000 SAN. I am going to disable the ASR option on this server as well.

Thanks,
John

Re: The previous system shutdown was unexpected Reason Code: 0xa000000

All,

After researching this a little more is appears to be a known issue and HP has released a Systems ROMPaq Firmware Upgrade dated (2008.09.01 (A) (2 Sep 2008)

This upgrade can be found here: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=15351&prodSeriesId=3454575&swItem=MTX-e9aa013d543d491eb76d649e7c&prodNameId=3562405&swEnvOID=1005&swLang=8&taskId=135&mode=4&idx=3

I am going to implement this in hopes to resolve the issue. I am also leaving the ASR option enabled for now...

Thanks,
John
