Re: firmware version

Part number : AB379-60101

This is the part number (not spare-part#).

The product# is AB379B, spare part AB379-69101, new part AB379-67101.

The HBA has firmware for ROM, BIOS and EFI driver (and FCODE, used for fabric login when booting from SAN) - all on the card itself. Not all are used in different server families.

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: firmware version

Hi  Torsten,

from the output from fcmsutil,is it possible to find if there are two parts by name AB379A or AB379B.

i have a requirement that if part being used is AB379A ->not required to update firmware

and if part being used is AB379B ->have to update firmware .

How can I confirm ?

Torsten.

Re: firmware version

IMHO AB379A is shown as AB379-60001, AB379B is shown as AB379-60101.

Hope this helps!

Re: firmware version

According to the FC HBA matrix both can be used in various servers, not only high-end (e.g. the AB379A in rx2660).

So most likely "a" is just followed by "b".

Regarding the mc update - SPOCK may have more details, but I would consider to upgrade anyway (together with system firmware, HBA firmware, drivers etc.) if needed.

Since the firmware is (almost) only used when booting over this HBA, you should consider to update the driver.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: firmware version

This Qlogic link explains the differences in the EFI, FCODE, BIOS firmware.

Basically you need to worry about those 3 IF you boot from SAN.  They each load minimal drivers (based on architecture type) so that you can access a SAN attached volume with an operating system.

https://support.qlogic.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/721/~/differences-between-fcode,-bios,-and-efi-code

Most "newer" QLOGIC based HBA's actually load the firmware via the driver on system boot.  So the system boots, initializes the HBA and loads driver specific firmware once the card is "up". This way driver is always interacting with driver specific firmware.

https://support.qlogic.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1523/related/1/session/L2F2LzEvdGltZS8xMzc0Njg3NDc3L3NpZC8xUGstaDF3bA%3D%3D

I also agree that a AB379-60001 is "A" rev card

and AB379-60101 is a "B" rev card.  I seem to recall reading that somewhere.

However, with all this said, it is best to stay "current" with the HP SPOCK, so that you can feel confident that the interoperability has been tested and verified.

Hope this helps...

-Jason

Re: firmware version

Log on to spock, select other hardware, hp-ux (fcd) and you will find

FW 5.03.15
EFI 2.22

recommended for most servers.

So you need the bundle I linked earlier.

http://h20272.www2.hp.com/utility/document.aspx?docurl=Shared%20Documents/hw/hbas/hba_software_support_stream_hpux.2013_05_30.pdf

In "by array" area you find the minimum needed driver version.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: firmware version

Is this matrix common to both xp and v max

Re: firmware version

Both servers are listed.

On the rp the firmware is not used, so make sure the PDC is up to date.

Remember the driver!

Re: firmware version

But when I raised a case with HP,they informed that only if os boots with LAN boot it is necessary to upgrade hba firmware and efi.since the fcd is upgraded to minimum level it was informed that it is not required to upgrade efi and hba firmware in related to storage micro code update. Is that correct ???

Re: firmware version

At least the EFI driver is also used during runtime. Since you are below the recommended version (according do SPOCK) you should do the update on the rx machine. Its about 30 min work and you are fine after this.

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.
