HI ,
I need to connect 2 switchs (one HP 5412 amd another Aruba 2930, 4 SFP+) via a 10G line, my manager wants me to connect them via a 10G copper line, can I use a 10G SFP+ RJ45 transceiver to either side and then connect them via a 10G cable. The cable run between the 2 switches is 50m. Or for such a distance a fibre connection is better than the copper. Also latency is an important factor in decision making in my case.
Thanks

Re: 10G copper link between the 2 switch
@vpaus What is the transceiver model you are having, we need to check the compatibility of the tranceiver on these switches. Yes, fiber is always better than copper.
You may refer the following documents for transceiver information

Re: 10G copper link between the 2 switch
Thinking of a 10GBASE-T copper transceiver module which would then be connected with cat6a cable run between the 2 switches. Will it work ??? We are talking about a cable run of 50 metres.

SolutionHi @vpaus !
According these specs:
HPE/Aruba 2930 Switch quick specifications: https://h20195.www2.hpe.com/v2/getdocument.aspx?docname=c05052929
HPE/Aruba 5412 Switch quick specifications: https://h20195.www2.hpe.com/v2/getdocument.aspx?docname=c04111646
HPE/Aruba 5412R Switch quick specifications: https://h20195.www2.hpe.com/v2/getdocument.aspx?docname=c04293383
neither of the platform has compatible 10GBASE-T SFP+ transceiver (RJ45 connector).
If we look at the general document HPE/Aruba Transceiver guide: https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?docId=a00028947en_us (Page 59) for all Aruba products, we actually see only one 10GBASE-T SFP+ transceiver - Aruba 10GBASE-T SFP+ RJ45 30m Cat6A XCVR (JL563A). However, this one is not suitable for you, because:
1. It's not compatible with 5412(R) / 2930
2. Transmission distance over Cat.6a cable is 30m maximum
I am afraid an optical link is the only choice in your case.
Hope this helps!
