I am replacing several 2910's with 2920's and was wondering if I could backup the 2910 config and load it on the 2920. Are they compatible or will it cause problems?

SolutionYes and no. They are compatible in the sense that 2920 should support whatever you have running on the 2910. And if they are the same port config (24 or 48 ports, 10G modules) you should be able to "move" the config without much trouble.
They are not in the sense that you can't take the 2910 config and directly upload it to 2920. The config parser will fail on the model# check.
The safest way would be take the 2910 config and cut & paste it into the CLI of the 2920. The other way, and it's not officially "supported", would be to take the 2910 config and change the model number to the 2920 you are copying it to. This will only work if the port config is the same. I do this in the lab fairly often, and the config parser "should" reject anything it doesn't like. The "should" is why it's not officially supported, it can't check for any possible thing you could try to upload.
So while that method will probably work you didn't hear me just recommend it...
