Problem with stacking two Aruba 290F JL259A

Hi all,

I'm trying to stack two Aruba 2930F with vsf. I tried it multiple times with different guides.
The software-version on both switches is WC.16.10.0016

Here is what I try to do:

I boot both switches, log in via Console Cable and type 'erase all' to factory-reset both switches and let them reboot.

Than I turn of the second switch and log in via Console Cable to the first switch.

I'm trying to follow this guide: https://community.arubanetworks.com/blogs/gregory-weaver1/2020/10/19/configure-virtual-switching-framework-vsf-the-easy-way

I create manager-credentials for the first switch and login.

Aruba-2930F-24G-4SFP# config
Aruba-2930F-24G-4SFP(config)# vsf member 1 link 1 26
Aruba-2930F-24G-4SFP(config)# vsf enable domain 1

I let the switch reboot.

After this, I connect the port 25 second switch to the port 26 of the first switch with an Aruba 10G SFP+ to SFT+ 1m DAC Cable (J9281D) and bootup the switch.

According to the guide, the switch should get the configuration, reboot and be part of the stack. But nothing happens except of the SFP-Port-LED is slowly flashing orange.

What am I doing wrong?

Thank you for your help!

Best Tobi

show vsf detail
show vsf link
show vsf link detail

Thanks!

Re: Problem with stacking two Aruba 290F JL259A

Hello @Tobbs ,

No, the VSF is not formed.

I am seeing interface are down.

Can you try to enable it and try to reboot the secondary switch again?

I am sharing VSF template guide, there are few examples for two devices VSF stack.

Kindly check and let me know for any query?

Re: Problem with stacking two Aruba 290F JL259A

Hello @Tobbs (and @akg7), Tobi...the JL259A has 4 SFP interfaces (1G) IIRC and you're using a DAC (10G) on port 1/26 on VSF Member 1 and port 2/26 on VSF Member 2 (so on both ends you're playing with SFP ports) to create the VSF inter-switch link - exactly you're using the Aruba 10G SFP+ to SFP+ 1 meter long DAC Cable (J9281D) - that way, it simply can't work no matter what you try. A SFP+ DAC Cable works at fixed speed of 10G (not at 1G) and it's not supported on SFP interfaces, only by SFP+ interfaces (or by SFP28/SFP+ interfaces).

Hello @parnassus ,

Thank you for this information!

I was not aware, that this makes a difference...

I switched to a different cable and now it is working!

Thank you
