having problem with windows xp start up

hi,

I am unable to start my windows xp due to missing or corrupt ntfs.sys file. I tried to back up and restore, but having problems with file index and hence the back up wasn't successful. I don't have a support CD for windows xp and hence couldn't repair the problem. Could someone let me know how to get around the problem.

You need an XP CD. What happened to yours?

Re: having problem with windows xp start up

you will neet to extract ntfs.sys
fro the XP CD. And copy it to C:\winnt\system32\drivers
I should fit on a floppy and you can boot
off of a floppy to to the copy.

Re: having problem with windows xp start up

I don't have a separate start up CD as the xp software was pre installed from compaq. All I have is the restore CD. Could someone tell where I can find the ntfs.sys file ?

Re: having problem with windows xp start up

hi,
i am having the same problem with ntfs.sys. I cannot boot up the system because ntfs.sys is corrupt.

Can you please send me a new version ntfs.sys , as i never received the XP disk from manufacturer.

Also did this solution work?

When you boot from the floppy, are you using dos boot disks or XP boot disks?
