BL460c Gen9 esxi6.5u3 iscsi boot question
Our customer is want to boot a blade server, which is connected to msa2040.
The blade server has HP Flexfabric 20Gb 2 port 630FLB CNA adapter.
We try:
- esxi 6.5U3 hp customized boot image
- esxi 6.5U1 hp customized boot image
- esxi 6.0U3 hp customized boot image
However, the boot is a failed, and the server cant see the
storage disk. The disk is coming from the Msa storage and it is an iscsi disk.
Esxi install doesnt find that disk.
We installed the esx on the usb stick and esx says:
esxcli iscsi adapter list
Adapter Driver State UID Description
------- ------ ------- ------------- ----------------------------------------
vmhba33 bnx2i unbound iscsi.vmhba33 QLogic 57840 20 Gigabit Ethernet Adapter
vmhba34 bnx2i unbound iscsi.vmhba34 QLogic 57840 20 Gigabit Ethernet Adapter
Yes, it sees the iscsi adapter. But when we do the rescan, the lun is not appears in the list.
Between the Blade and msa there is a virtual connect. We try to configure iscsi on vmware side, but may be we missed some steps. UEFI is enabled in the bios.
Question:
1. How can we fix that problem?
2. How can we debug that problem?
3. Where should we configure the iscsi settings to boot? (on the msa side or on the virtual connect?)
4. How can we set up vmware to boot from iscsi lun?
The server is seamlessly boot the Linux image on the same blade, when we change the LUN and want to
install the esx on the different lun it is unsuccessful.
Thanks in advance.

Paul

Re: BL460c Gen9 esxi6.5u3 iscsi boot question
Hi Paul,
Hope you are fine.
We will need to go on a remote session to understand the issue better and it would be easier to sort it out that way.
Hence requesting you to get in touch with the HPE Support who would be able to further work with you on this case.
