c3000 interconnect links to cisco

Hallo I want connect my c3000 chassis with

two 1/10gb VC-Enet Modules to two cisco switches.

and

two 4 gb VC-FC Modules

At this time I have only one active link and three standby.

Thats not enough.

Whats the best way to make two active links per switch 2 x 1 Gb.

Perhaps one links active and one link passive per cisco switch.

thanks for solutions.

Re: c3000 interconnect links to cisco

  1. Create 2 x UplinkSets,  UpLinkSide_A and UpLinkSide B.
  • UL_SideA_S1= Ports from Bay 1 module - Connect these ports to Switch_1
  • UL_SideA_S2= Ports from Bay 1 module - Connect these ports to Switch_2
  • UL_SideB_S1= Ports from Bay 2 Module - Connect these ports to Switch_1
  • UL_SideB_S2= Ports from Bay 2 Module - Connect these ports to Switch_2

2.  Create Virtual Networks (vLAN's), in pairs for Side A and Side B,   e.g. "vLAN_10A_S1", "vLAN_10B_S1", "vLAN_10A_S2" and vLAN_10B_S2".

3.  Set vLAN_10A_S1 to use UL_SideA_S1, and vLAN_10B_S1 to use UL_SideB_S1, etc.

4.  Assign the vLANs to your Ethernet Ports (In the Profile.)

Avoid mixing ports from different ENet modules in the same uplinkset.

For the FC connections do the same.   Create vSAN's with 2 ports each on each FC module, so FC Module 1 has vSAN_1A (=Ports 1 & 3), and vSAN_1B (= Ports 2 & 4).    Do same on other Module to get vSAN_2A and vSAN_2B.    Connect the cables for vSAN_1A and vSAN_2A to SAN Switch_A, and the cables for vSAN_1B and vSAN_2B to SAN Switch_B.

In the server profile, assign the hba ports to the appropriate vSAN's

Done.

Hope this helps.

Dave.

Re: c3000 interconnect links to cisco

Just realized that the Uplinksets in Item 1 should be called UL_SideA_S1 and UL_SideB_S1, (this is just a naming convention, and in reality you can have as many as you want).
Just don't mix ports from different modules in same Uplinkset. Same for vSAN's

Hallo Dan

thanks for your reply, ist there a need to configure the cisco switches (spanning tree, else)

thank you!
