SRDF and Sybase Implementation

Hi,

Has anyone here successfully implemented EMC SRDF facility and Sybase 11.9.3 on HP-UX 11 ?

Re: SRDF and Sybase Implementation

Not quite an answer to the question, but I run SRDF on the mainframe (not HPUX) and it knows nothing about the mirror being done by the disk subsystem.

Does HPUX know anything about the mirror?

Re: SRDF and Sybase Implementation

John,

Mirroring in HP-UX is done at the Logical Volume level by LVM. Applications know nothing of the mirroring.

Some disk arrays use a hardware for RAID 0/1 in which case neither LVM nor the applications are the wiser.

Cheers,

Re: SRDF and Sybase Implementation

SRDF is at the hardware level in the EMC disk box and is controlled by the EMC interface. AFAIK, this is the way it is done for all platforms. HPUX LVM would not know that this is happening.

MirrorUX is a totally different way of doing things and mirroring is done in the software.

Re: SRDF and Sybase Implementation

Hi,
we have implemented ASE 11.5 on a HP-UX 10.20 platform. It was a great success - one of the best implementations I've been involved in.
I'd definitely advise you to test the failover several times as this is really scary when being done in an emergency.
If you have any specific questions then let me know - I'd be happy to help,
regards
Richard.
