Can you replace from the VA7110 to VA7100 with controller exchange?

Hello~
I have VA7110 Storage.
Because VxVM(Veritas) don't support VA7110 Storage under MC/SG for RAC.
And I have the extra Va7100 Controller Part.
So I will exchange the controller between Va7110 and Va7100.

When they exchange the controller, they work well?
Is it possible to exchange the controller ?

Thank you~~

Re: Can you replace from the VA7110 to VA7100 with controller exchange?

You can replace the controller, however it requires a formatting of the array. All data is lost. All of the VA controllers (7100, 7110, 7400, 7410) use the same main enclosure, the only difference is the controllers. Also the VA7100 only supports only the main enclosure and no add-on enclosures. So if you have any add-on enclosures, they would have to be removed (hence the required formatting)

You cannot mix controllers (I think you were looking to do a rolling downgrade to a VA1700, if I read you right). You may want to check if the memory in the VA7110 controller is supported on the VA7100. I don't believe the 1024MB DIMMs are supported on the VA7100.

Here's the link on how to upgrade from a VA7100 to a VA7110 (I assume you reverse it to go the other way)
