MSA diskplacement

Hi
In MSA 30 one disk has failed and the data also gone,I have to replace the disk,so tell me what is the procedure to replace the disk,How do I identify the faulty one? after replacement What is the step should I follow,I have to restore the vg's???

Hi,

especially in the storage forum you MUST specify your OS. It could be windows, linux, tru64, openVMS, hpux ...

You mentioned "vg" so I assume it's hp-ux.

Is your MSA30 connected to a "normal" SCSI HBA or a smartarray controller?

This is essential for a solution.

If in doubt, post a "ioscan -fn".

If the disk is _NOT_ connected to a smart array controller, see this document:

hi sir,

Sry to mention all this stuff,it is hpux only.it is connected with smart array controller.regarding how to do that?

If the disk is connected to a smart array controller, check the status with

sautil /dev/ciss

(take "x" from your ioscan output), swap the disk and check again. For a mirror drive or a RAID5 / ADG all actions will be done by the controller.
