Replacing Compaq Smart Array 5i plus controller
I need to replace a Compaq Smart Array 5i plus controller in a Proliant DL360 G1 which currently has mirrored drives. Is this possible to do w/o losing the data on the mirror set and then restoring from backup? If so what is the procedure?
Thanks, John
Thanks, John

Re: Replacing Compaq Smart Array 5i plus controller
John,
You can just swap the controller. There should be no loss of configuration or data but it would be prudent to make sure that you have a good backup.

Re: Replacing Compaq Smart Array 5i plus controller
Colin, thanks for the feedback! I replaced the controller and the server came up just fine.
For some reason though the server continues to have a problem in that it periodically reboots and at the point its initializing the 5i controller it stops and prompts me to press f1 to recover data or f2 to continue. Either option allows the server to boot up but the problem will eventually re-occur. We have now replaced both drives (which is what we assumed was the originall cause of the problem) and the controller.
Any ideas on what the problem might be at this point?
Thanks, John
