creating a LUN with command view

I have an RP7410 with VA7410 controller with 15 73 gig drives. The array is setup and now I need to create a lun. When I create the lun, do I put all the drives, all the space into that 1 LUN, or do I need to create different luns, if so why. What is the benefit of having more luns.

Re: creating a LUN with command view

You need to create at least 2 or 3 LUNS.

If there is more than 1 server connected, you should create a small LUN0, lt's say 10 or 20MB for administrative purposes.

Now you need to create at least one LUN per redundancy group, because a LUN cannot span these groups.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: creating a LUN with command view

Hello,

you should create a small LUN 0 and present it to all hosts, from which you want to administrate the VA.

You should create one LUN for each filesystem. This is more work, but if you want to expand a filesystem, it's easier if only one filesystem lies on it. The VA7410 has two redundancy groups, so you have to create LUNs in both of it, because LUNs can't span a RG as Torsten already said. :)

Hope this helps.
